WishList Member Social Login - Allow Users to Login Using Their Social Accounts

Your members likely have several social accounts and have even more online accounts for various sites (including your membership site). This means your members need to keep track of multiple sets of login details at any given time. Why not make it easier on your members by allowing them to login to your membership site using their social account? Now your members can have one less set of login details they need to remember.

This is possible when using the WishList Member Social Login Add-on. You can select to enable one, some or all providers from a range of popular social options like Facebook, Google, X (formerly Twitter), and WordPress.com. Once the Add-on is enabled on your site and the Social Provider has been configured and verified, the login option for the enabled Social Provider will be displayed as a login option on WordPress and WishList Member powered login pages.

The Social Login options you decide to enable are provided in addition to the standard WordPress/WishList Member login methods. This results in your members being able to login using the method of their choice.

The Social Login Integration Add-on is available in select WishList Member plans.

Social Login Providers

You will find the available Social Providers in the Social Login section of WishList Member.

The WishList Member Social Login Add-on must be enabled for it to appear in the WishList Member menu.

WishList Member Social Login - Select a Social Provider

Your members will just need to have an existing account in your membership site in order to use the Social Login option. You can manually add members to your site or members can register to join your site using any WishList Member registration method.

An existing member only needs to connect their membership site account to their social account once and can login using their social account moving forward.

Enable and Configure Social Providers

You can enable and configure any of the available Social Providers. The choice is yours to decide which Social Providers can be used by your members to login to your site.

Connection Methods for Social Accounts

There are two possible scenarios used by WishList Member Social Login when a member connects their site account to their social account. Facebook, Google and WordPress.com handle the connection process in a similar way while X (formerly Twitter) handles the connection process a bit differently.

Scenario 1 is the primary method used for connection and Scenario 2 is the secondary method used for connection. WishList Member Social Login uses Scenario 2 if Scenario 1 is not able to create the connection.

The following applies to the Social Provider(s) that are enabled on the site. Only enabled Social Providers will be shown to members as a connection option.

Connection Scenario 1

If a member has an existing Facebook or Google or WordPress.com social account and that social account uses the same email address that is tied to their site account (where the WishList Member Social Login Add-on is installed), Scenario 1 will be used. The member can connect their accounts by using the available login button for their social account displayed on the login form and won’t need to manually connect the accounts using the Connect button on the site. In this scenario, WishList Member Social Login will automatically search for a match of the member’s email address in the site database and in the social account database. If there is a matching email address, the site account and social account will be connected.

This scenario is the primary method to create the connection and is tried first by WishList Member Social Login when the login button for the social account displayed on the login form is used. This scenario is not possible when using the X (formerly Twitter) Social Provider because X (formerly Twitter) doesn't share the social account email address information.

Connection Scenario 2

If a member has an existing Facebook or Google or WordPress.com social account and that social account does not use the same email address that is tied to their site account (where the WishList Member Social Login Add-on is installed), or the member wants to use X (formerly Twitter) to login, Scenario 2 will be used. The member will just need to manually connect their social account using the Connect button that can be included on a page within the site. The Connect button is often included on a user profile page. The member can run through the quick connection process when they click the Connect button.

In either scenario, the connection process only needs to be done once to allow the member to login using their social account for that Social Provider moving forward.

WishList Member Social Login Shortcodes – Display Social Login Buttons and Connect/Disconnect Buttons to Members

WishList Member Social Login includes a shortcode to display the Social Login buttons members can use to login with their social accounts. An additional shortcode is also available to display the Connect/Disconnect buttons members can use to connect or disconnect their social accounts from their site accounts.

This allows you to add those buttons to any pages on your site. As an example, you could use the Social Login Connect/Disconnect Buttons shortcode on a member dashboard page. This would provide your members with the option to connect their site account to one of their social accounts and login with that social account moving forward.

The WishList Member Social Login Shortcodes are available in the WishList Member Shortcode Creator that can be found on your WishList Member Dashboard or when using the Classic Block in the WordPress Gutenberg editor.

WishList Member Points Add-on - Leaderboard

Adding some healthy and friendly competition amongst members can be an effective way to encourage interaction. The Points Add-on includes a Leaderboard widget you can use to display a variety of standings related to points. This can include daily or monthly points leaders and you can also include an “All Time” list of points leaders.

The Leaderboard widget can be added to your site and your members can watch the standings dynamically update based on the actions of members. Perhaps you have the Points Add-on configured to award a set number of points each time a member login. Or maybe you provide points to members when they leave a comment. Whatever the case may be, if members know they can rise up the leaderboard based on actions they complete within the site, they are often more inclined to engage in those actions.

Enable the Points Leaderboard Widget

You can access your available widgets in the Appearance > Widgets section in WordPress.

WishList Member Points Add-on - Leaderboard Widget

In the example screenshot below, the Main Sidebar widget has been selected and searching for the “Points Add on” will display the Leaders in Points widget. Click the widget and it will be added to the selected sidebar.

WishList Member Points Add-on - Leaderboard Widget

The default settings will display three leaderboard sections:

  • All Time Leaders. This list will display the users with the highest overall points total.
  • Monthly Leaders. This list will display the users with the highest overall points total for the current month.
  • Daily Leaders. This list will display the users with the highest overall points total for the current day.

The ID of users to exclude on this list option allows you to prevent specific users from appearing on the leaderboard. This can be helpful if you have test accounts or internal team members you want to exclude from appearing on the list.

You can also select the number of top users to show for each of those sections. The default number is 3 but you can show more or less users on the lists you display.

Each of the three sections includes an enable/disable feature so you can select which sections you want to be seen.

WishList Member Points Add-on - Leaderboard Widget Settings

The name of the Leaderboard and the names of the three sections can all be edited. This means you can adjust these names to fit your membership site.

The example screenshot below shows the Leaderboard widget set with “Top Member Points” as the title and to only display the All Time Leaders points total. 5 top users will be displayed and no users will be excluded from the list. The Sidebar Title has also been left blank so a title for the overall Leaderboard widget won't appear on the live site.

A Sidebar Title can be useful in keeping everything clear if you display multiple sections in the widget or if you display multiple widgets on your site.

View the Points Leaderboard Widget on the Site

Once you've configured the Points Leaderboard widget, you can see how that appears on the live site.

The screenshot example below shows what members will see based on the settings mentioned earlier in this article. In this case, a list of the top 5 users for all time points can be seen.

WishList Member Points Add-on - Leaderboard Widget Display

You can easily display a list of dynamically driven point totals that your members can see whenever they visit your site. This bit of visual encouragement can help increase member engagement as they strive to make the list and climb it.

Issue certificates to members - WishList Member

You may have times when you would like to issue certificates to members on your site. Your site may offer a certification program and you would like to provide an actual certificate when a member completes a course. Or perhaps you would like to give a certificate to a member who you've noticed has been helping others within your community.

WishList Member doesn't include built in functionality to issue a certificate to a member. But there is an option that should work for you. It has to do with how member accounts are created in WishList Member.

Creating Members in WishList Member

Members are created in WishList Member using the WordPress user database. This means if you use a WordPress plugin that issues certificates to users, it could also be used to issue certificates to members.

A plugin that creates certificates often includes settings and options to customize the appearance of the certificate. You can likely include your site logo, adjust colors and tailor the certificate to fit your needs.

If this sounds appealing to you while setting up your membership site, issuing certificates to members could be something to add to your community.

WordPress User Certificate Plugins

A search for the term “User Certificates” in the WordPress Plugins directory provides a selection of available plugin options for issuing certificates.

Issue certificates to members - WishList Member

You can issue a certificate to members as a reward for accomplishing a goal or for participating within the community on your site. This can help encourage interaction among members and also boost member retention.

This article includes examples of the following settings for Quizzes within CourseCure. The table of contents on the right can be used to jump to any section.

General Settings

There is a General Settings section that covers a few Settings for all Quizzes.

Missing Quiz Message: This message will appear on the site if a Quiz gets removed from a page/post and someone comes across that page/post afterwards. It is recommended to remove a page/post that no longer includes a previously included Quiz.

User Not Logged In Message: This message will appear to a User if they are trying to access a Quiz but aren't logged in.

Quiz Taken Message: This message will appear to a User if they have already taken the Quiz.

Quiz Setup

The green plus icon on the top of the Quizzes section can be clicked to begin the Quiz building process.

The first step is to set a Title for the Quiz and click the green Apply button.

Once the Quiz has a Title, the additional sub tabs are available.

  • Questions
  • Settings
  • Actions

Quiz Questions

Creating Questions within the Quiz comes next. Each Quiz will contain Questions.

Questions are added by using the blue Add Question button in the Questions sub tab. Enter the Question Title into the field and click the green Save button. You can repeat the process until all Questions are added.

The option to Add Answer is shown within each Question. Click the arrow icon to the left of the Question to display the circle plus icon to Add Answer.

Click the circle plus icon to add an Answer. Repeat the process until all Lessons are added.

You can then select the Correct Answer(s) by clicking the corresponding checkbox in the Correct column. You can also mouse over an Answer and click the edit Icon to edit the Answer.

The Up/Down arrow icon on the far right will also appear on mouse over. The arrows can be used to drag and drop the Answers into the preferred order.

An Answer can also be dragged and dropped into a different Quiz if desired. The Quiz would just need to be in expanded view to accept the Lesson.

Note: More than one Answer can be set as the Correct Answer.

You can add all Questions and Answers (and set all Correct Answers).

Quiz Settings

The Settings sub tab is used to configure specific settings for the Quiz.

Questions Per Page: The set number of Questions that will appear on one page of the Quiz. Example: The number is set to 10. If there are more than 10 Questions in the Quiz, the Quiz will be paginated with 10 pages appears on each page. If there are less than 10 Questions, the full Quiz will appear on one page.

Passing Score: The number of correct Answers needed to pass the Quiz. Example: The Passing Score is set to 5. A User must get at least 5 Questions correct in order to pass the Quiz.

Button Text: The Text that will appear on the submit button at the end of the Quiz.

The blue Save or green Save & Close button can be clicked once all Settings are configured.

Quiz Actions

A set of Actions can be configured to be executed after a User takes a Quiz.

The green Add Action button at the top of the Actions sub tab can be clicked to begin the process.

The Select the Action box will appear and the “When this happens…” “Then do this…” options can be set.

A Trigger is set (When a User Passes, When a User Fails) and the desired Action is set to be executed based on that Trigger.

The selected Action will provide additional options based on the type of Action selected.

In the example shown below, a User will get redirected to the selected page after passing a Quiz.

The newly created Action will now appear in the Actions list.

Quiz Shortcodes

A Quiz can be inserted into any page or post on the site. This is done by using the corresponding Quiz Shortcode.

A Quiz Shortcode can be copied from the Quizzes tab.

Once copied, the Quiz Shortcode can be inserted into a page or post.

That page or post will now show the Quiz on the live site and Users can take it.

Quiz Results

The Quiz Results section displays results from any Users who have taken any of the available Quizzes on the site.

Any selected Results can be deleted or exported to a .CSV file using the Select an Action dropdown.
